Good News for Chilli Farmers from the Centre.
The Centre has announced a minimum support price of ₹11,781 per quintal for chillies under the Market Intervention Scheme to assist farmers in Andhra Pradesh. The announcement follows concerns raised by former CM Chandrababu Naidu and protests by farmers due to falling prices.
New Delhi: With chilli prices falling in Andhra Pradesh, former CM Chandrababu Naidu approached the Centre to help farmers. Under the Market Intervention Scheme (MIS), the Centre has fixed the minimum price at ₹11,781 per quintal. Orders have been issued accordingly. This price applies to one quintal of chillies. Due to the sharp price decline, farmers have been selling at a loss. From now on, the Centre will cover the difference between production costs and selling prices.
The orders will be in effect for a month. Under the Market Intervention Scheme, the central government has announced this price and allowed the collection of 2.58 lakh metric tonnes of chillies. These orders will remain active for a month. Recently, CM Chandrababu Naidu sent a letter to the Centre and also spoke to Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan regarding the difficulties faced by chilli farmers. In response, the Centre has set a price for chillies.
Recently, chilli farmers raised concerns about not receiving support prices, leading to protests. The government responded quickly, spoke to the Centre, and requested justice for the farmers. Meanwhile, former CM Y.S. Jagan visited the Guntur Chilli Market Yard to show solidarity with farmers. Some claim that this credit belongs to the coalition government, while others are spreading the message on social media, claiming that the Centre responded after Jagan's visit.
